Chad Ramey stunned the golfing world by taking a one-shot lead on the opening day of The Players Tournament at TPC Sawgrass. Ramey, who is ranked world No. 225, had missed the cut of seven of his previous 10 PGA Tour starts but fired a bogey-free 64, including eight birdies, to herobically steal the lead ahead of the likes of Collin Morikawa and world No. 2 Scottie Scheffler. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy started poorly with an opening 76 and is in danger of missing the cut.
Morikawa initially led the field after a brilliant eagle and five birdies, while Suh made a late dash for the top with five birdies. Scheffler and Min Woo Lee are tied for fourth place, with Jordan Spieth three under par. Xander Schauffele rallied to finish level par, while Danny Willett, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tyrrell Hatton are a distant eight strokes back. Play was suspended due to failing light before all of the remaining groups could complete their rounds.
