A couple have been fined £500 each after causing significant noise disturbance with their loud sex in a hotel on Valentine’s Day. Jamie Boultbee and Kaylie Hursthouse had checked into the Moorlands Izaak Walton hotel in Derbyshire for a romantic break, but their late-night activities kept other guests awake. Police were called to their room in the early hours of 14 February. They were given a keycard to access their room, but the hotel said that they caused damage amounting to £1,000, and had to compensate the guests in three other rooms who were disturbed by the couple’s noise. Boultbee was found to have 33 past convictions.
At Southernhay House hotel in Exeter, hotel owner Mark Godfrey has drawn criticism for an Instagram post featuring an abandoned bicycle. In the post, Godfrey wrote: “Attention bike thief! We have your bike which you stole from outside our entrance on Monday night. It now belongs to the Devon & Cornwall police. And if you don’t like it, please feel free to come down and explain in person…” Critics argued that he was risking disturbing guests and exacerbating the issue of bike theft in Exeter.
Several hoteliers and leisure businesses across India have spoken of the economic effects of a slowdown in their industries due to the country’s recent violent protests. “Industries such as retail hospitality will be worst affected in the short and medium term because everything is about consumer sentiment,” said Anuj Kejriwal, managing director of insight firm Anarock Retail. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, the recent political turmoil has led to a 43% slump in visitors to the city in August compared to the same month last year.
