Nicole and Mahmoud Clash Over Clothes Again: Maybe We Shouldn’t Be Together!

Nicole Sherbiny and Mahmoud Elsherbiny are having an argument in Season 4, Episode 6 of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way, about what Nicole is wearing. Mahmoud policed her clothing shortly after her arrival from America and has previously given her permission to wear short sleeves. Nicole had spoken to Mahmoud over video chat while wearing similar outfits, but he insists that this situation never occurred. Mahmoud demands that Nicole dress conservatively not just in Egypt, but even if she’s alone in the US. Through the course of their debatable memories, Mahmoud tells Nicole that he’s serious about the clothes and reaffirms his policy. He questions why she “promised” him before, and Nicole replies that, before they married, she “didn’t know” how strict his expectations were.

Nicole loves Mahmoud, but she’s not having a good time because they continue to fight a lot. Mahmoud blows up at Nicole over past wearing of short sleeves, storming off and saying that they shouldn’t be together in the recent episode. Their disagreement over sleeve length causes tensions to mount, forcing Mahmoud to retreat to their room. In contrast, Nicole follows, clearly hoping to settle the discussion instead of having it loom over them. There is nothing constructive in Nicole saying “yes” and Mahmoud saying “no” like this.

Mahmoud insists that he doesn’t want Nicole to “change,” except in the sense of what clothing she wears. Visitors to Egypt might need to adjust their wardrobe as per cultural norms, but Mahmoud’s demands go beyond all of that. However, communication plays a key role here, and it is crucial for both of them to understand that there may be miscommunication at play that they need to address. It is clear by the end of this episode that they are incompatible, and maybe the two of them should not be together.
