The Oscar statuette has undergone several design changes since it was first awarded in 1929. The Oscar is now cast solid in gold-plated bronze, weighing 8.5 pounds, close to artist George Stanley’s original Art Deco design. The Statuette is produced by UAP workshop in Rock Tavern, New York, which 3D scanned both the original 1928 statue and the current version in order to celebrate the desired attributes of both designs. Photographer, Christopher Payne, has been documenting how the statuettes are made at the UAP foundry over the past few months. Payne, who specialises in industrial photography praised the iconic shape of the Oscar statuette.
