Brian May knighted by King at Buckingham Palace

Brian May, the legendary guitarist and co-founder of the rock band Queen, has been appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to music and charity. The honour was bestowed upon him by the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, at a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace.

The award comes in recognition of May’s outstanding contribution to music over the past five decades, as well as his philanthropic work, which includes animal welfare, environmental causes, and raising awareness of mental health issues. May has been associated with several charitable organizations, including the Save Me Trust, which aims to protect animals from slaughter, and the Freddie Mercury Scholarship, which supports students studying music at his alma mater, the Imperial College in London.

May expressed his delight at receiving the honour, saying it was a “tremendous honour” to receive the CBE for services to music and charity. He also thanked his bandmates in Queen, his family, and his fans for their support throughout his career.

May’s musical career spans over five decades, during which he has written some of the most iconic rock anthems of all time, including “We Will Rock You,” “The Show Must Go On,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” He is also known for his unique guitar playing style, which blends elements of rock, pop, and classical music.

May first rose to fame in the 1970s and 80s as the lead guitarist of Queen, one of the most popular and influential rock bands of all time. Queen is known for its theatrical live performances, complex musical arrangements, and genre-defying sound. The band has sold over 150 million records worldwide and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame.

In recent years, May has focused on his solo career, releasing several albums and collaborating with other artists. He has also been involved with the remastered versions of Queen’s classic albums and the production of the highly successful biopic of Freddie Mercury, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which won four Oscars, including Best Actor for Rami Malek.
