The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament continued on Saturday with four Sweet 16 games. Maryland took on Notre Dame, with Maryland’s Elisa Pinzan getting a steal on the first possession of the game and passing to Faith Masonius for the layup. South Carolina faced UCLA, while UConn played Ohio State and Virginia Tech took on Tennessee. Four teams advanced to the Elite Eight on Friday: Miami, LSU, Iowa and Louisville.
In the game between Louisville and Ole Miss, Hailey Van Lith hit a deep jumper before blowing a kiss to the crowd. Ole Miss took a two-point advantage with just under three minutes to play in the second quarter on a 3-pointer from Myah Taylor, but the Cardinals held their opponent scoreless for the remainder of the half, leading 34-29 after two quarters. Iowa defeated Colorado 87-77, with Frida Formann leading the Buffs early in the game and keeping the score tight by sinking 3-pointer after 3-pointer.
LSU held on to edge Utah in a 66-63 victory, while Miami defeated Villanova 70-65. The Canes punched their ticket to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history with the exciting victory.
Maryland’s Pinzan started the game with a steal and layup, while LSU blazed ahead in the opening minutes of their game against Utah. Frida Formann led Colorado in their game against Iowa, but the Hawkeyes stormed back in the second half. Miami’s Jasmyne Roberts got the Canes off to a good start against Villanova, while Louisville’s Hailey Van Lith hit a deep jumper and blew a kiss to the crowd.
