MTV’s cult animated series Clone High is getting a modern refresh and headed towards an HBO Max release in 2023. The series was created by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence. Set in a high school for clones of historical figures, the show follows the challenges of students attempting to navigate newer cultural norms and overly dramatic relationships. The premise of the series is that the high school is secretly run as a massive military experiment to clone the greatest minds in history. When the experiment is put on ice, the clones have been revived 20 years later to continue the program with new clones.
The original cast, which includes Will Forte, Nicole Sullivan, Lord, Miller, Christa Miller, Donald Faison, and Judah Miller, will reprise their roles. In addition, a new line-up of comedic talent has been added to the cast including Ayo Edebiri, Mitra Jouhari, Vicci Martinez, Kelvin Yu, Neil Casey, Jana Schmieding, Sam Richardson, Mo Gaffney, Al Madrigal, Danny Pudi, Emily Maya Mills, Michael Bolton, Mandy Moore, Ian Ziering, Steve Kerr, Jeffrey Muller, Kyle Lau, Dannah Phirman, and Danielle Schneider. The release of the series is set to mark its 20-year anniversary.
HBO Max recently shared three images from the series, including one of Frida Kahlo, Abe Lincoln, JFK, Joan of Arc, Harriet Tubman, Cleopatra, and Confucius standing in front of the Grassy Knoll as it burns. JFK looks nonchalant in the image. The other two images show Principal Scudworth setting the tone during ‘Saxual’ Education Week.
Audiences have yet to receive a release date for the upcoming Clone High series, but it is clear that the HBO Max reboot is highly anticipated. With a new cast of comedic talent, audiences can expect an engaging and comedic animated show set in an alternate universe with historical figures cloned into teens trying to attend high school.
