Actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband, talent agent Jim Toth, have announced their divorce, just before their 12th wedding anniversary. The couple, who have a 10-year-old son, and Witherspoon’s 23-year-old daughter and 19-year-old son by her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, released a statement that said they had made the decision with “deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together”. There was no specific reason given for the split, and a source said there had been “no drama, no event or reason” to cause it. Witherspoon and Toth met in 2010 at a friend’s party. They married in 2011.
Witherspoon, who won an Oscar in 2006 for Walk the Line, was famously married to fellow actor Phillippe for nine years, a union that produced two children. She and Phillippe are also committed to coparenting their kids after splitting up. Toth, who worked at talent agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency) at the time the couple met, has since moved to become head of motion picture talent at rival agency Quibi.
Last year, the couple, who frequently post photos of each other on social media, marked their eleventh wedding anniversary on Witherspoon’s Instagram page. Along with photos of the pair, she wrote at the time: “Happy Anniversary JT!! 11 years of adventures, love & laughter. I feel so lucky to share this wonderful life with you.”
Witherspoon, who is a writer and producer as well as an actress, set up her own production company, Hello Sunshine, in 2016. She and Toth are both currently listed as executive producers on the HBO series Big Little Lies, which was also based on a book by the actor.
