AirPods Pro with USB-C are supposedly on the way

Apple is reportedly working on a USB-C version of its second-generation AirPods Pro, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo said that the earbuds could start shipping with a USB-C case during the second and third quarters of this year. However, he noted that this does not apply to Apple’s standard AirPod models as the company currently has no plans for USB-C versions of AirPods 2 and 3.

Apple launched the second-generation AirPods Pro last September, which comes with a Lightning port and compatibility with MagSafe, Qi, and Apple Watch chargers. The new model comes with several features, including a speaker that emits a noise when locating them with the Find My app, as well as a built-in loop where users can attach a lanyard.

The USB-C version of the second-generation AirPods Pro is likely to appeal to users who want a universal charging port. Currently, Lightning ports are used to charge the current model of the AirPods Pro. However, with more and more devices incorporating USB-C ports, the addition of a USB-C version of the AirPods Pro would allow for easier charging with various devices.

The rumored move towards USB-C is consistent with Apple’s recent efforts to get rid of Lightning ports on its devices. According to several reports, Apple plans to make changes to its iPhone lineup, with iPhones shipping next year completely eliminating the charging port. The removal of the charging port would make it even more imperative for users to have a wireless charging feature, which is already available on the current AirPod models.
