Bayern-Dortmund isn’t a title decider, but it’s close

This weekend, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will face off in what is being dubbed as the biggest head-to-head Bundesliga confrontation in years. While it may be too early to determine the title decider, the match is expected to be a captivating one. The recent ousting of Julian Nagelsmann to bring in Thomas Tuchel as the new coach of Bayern has been met with skepticism from fans. Tuchel’s debut with Bayern may result in a win as Hansi Flick’s first Bundesliga game, having ruthlessly won against Dortmund in November 2019 with a 4-0 score. 

Despite the skepticism surrounding the change of coaches, the Bundesliga has been deemed as the most exciting top league in Europe this season. Dortmund is leading the league and can secure a win, putting them one step closer to winning the Meisterschale. Dortmund has witnessed a remarkable run this season, having claimed 28 points out of a possible 30 since January. A one-point lead entering the Endspurt of Bundesliga has exploded expectations since winter’s depths, where they were nine points behind. 

Terzic, Dortmund’s current coach, has proved to be a fan favorite, being a lifelong fan of the club growing up near the city. Dortmund has struggled to find a coach that shares the heartbeat of the club since their last winning trainer, Jurgen Klopp. Similarly, Tuchel may not be the best fit for Bayern due to his employing a more defensive approach that does not align with Bayern’s high-energy, high-pressing style. 
 
Bayern could have a tough time considering also their current injuries, which include injuries to several key players, such as Lewandowski and Gnabry. Dortmund’s gem remains captain Marco Reus. The team has also had impressive performances from several of its players, including full-back Julian Ryerson, Niklas Sule, Karim Adeyemi, and Emre Can. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has also been a standout player this season.
