MMA fighter who tried cheap trick at start of fight gets instant karma as he is KO’d seconds later

Irish MMA fighter Dario Sinagoga lost his unbeaten pro record when he was defeated by Ash Mashreghi in just 11 seconds at the Battlefield Fight League in Vancouver. Sinagoga attempted a fake glove touch at the beginning of the fight in a bid to lure Mashreghi into an early blow. Instead, Mashreghi grappled and forced Sinagoga down with a barrage of punches and pushes. The referee quickly ended the fight and Mashreghi celebrated his victory by jumping on top of the octagon.

Sinagoga felt cheated and believed he should have been given more time to recover, quoting Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu on Instagram. However, fans commenting on social media slammed his tactics, calling his behaviour a “clown show”. One fan wrote: “Dirty scum a fake glove touch shows a total lack of being a decent fighter and human, glad he got his punishment.” Sinagoga’s tactics were deemed gamesmanship rather than acceptable tactics.

Canadian Mashreghi emerged as the clear victor after Sinagoga’s failed attempt at trickery. The fight served as a reminder that good sportsmanship is an essential part of MMA, despite the intensity of the game. It also proved that cheap tricks and sneaky tactics typically have no place in MMA and can backfire, as they did in this case. When it comes to MMA, honourable conduct and fair play will always be valued over any attempted manipulations.

MMA remains one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide, with events taking place all over the world. The sport is gruelling and requires intense training, dedication and numerous hours of practice. Sportsmanship and a strong ethos are a core component of any meaningful athletic competition, including MMA, and Sinagoga’s ill-conceived tactic served as yet another reminder of that sentiment. The tactical move went wrong, leaving Sinagoga embarrassed and ending his unbeaten record.
