Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for an additional three games and fined £75,000 for violent conduct by an independent regulatory commission. He had already served a one-match ban. The striker was also suspended for two games for behaviour and language the regulatory commission called “improper, abusive, insulting and threatening” when he was sent off. The suspensions have been imposed in addition to a three-match ban he received for the red card offence.
Fulham manager Marco Silva has been given a two-match touchline ban and fined a total of £40,000 – £20,000 for being sent off and £20,000 for his comments after the match. Fulham was also handed a £40,000 fine for failing to control players as Mitrovic, Silva and Willian were sent off within a couple of minutes of each other. Willian was not punished further.
It means Mitrovic will not be able to play in Fulham’s next seven games, while Silva will have to miss two matches from the touchline. It is said that Fulham has ten Premier League games remaining this season, so Mitrovic will be unavailable for a maximum of three further games.
This means that the club’s Premier League survival hopes, already slim, will be under more pressure. They are currently seven points adrift of safety, having played one more game than 18th-placed Fulham.
