Jeep is releasing two new trim levels for its popular plug-in hybrid Wrangler SUV for the 2024 model year. The car company anticipates a completely electrified line-up by 2025. An increase in off-road capabilities, better towing ability and more in-car tech are among the upgrades to the hybrid Wrangler, which include new Rubicon X and Wrangler Sport S 4xe designs. The 2024 version will be Jeep’s first major upgrade since the release of the Wrangler 4xe model in 2021, which significantly increased the hybrid’s adoption by adventure-focused customers. Approximately, one in four Jeep Wranglers sold in 2022 were plug-in hybrids, equating to over 43,000 customers, which was up 46% compared to 2021.
Jeep wants to maintain the new model’s popularity by offering factory-installed tech including a Warn winch with 8,000 lbs of capacity and enhanced features for off-road capabilities and comfort. Additionally, several engine options will be available, including the Rubicon 392 6.4-liter V-8 engine with 470 lb-ft of torque, plug-in hybrid 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque or 3.6-liter gas engine with both a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For those who prefer their phone’s interface, the new Wrangler will come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, while a new 12.3-inch touchscreen will run Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 operating system. New features include a new Trails Offroad, which can deliver off-road trail guides for the 62 Jeep Badge of Honor trails loaded right into the Uconnect 5 system.
Jeep is currently working on the Jeep Recon, the Wagoneer S, and the Jeep Avenger, its fully electrified line-up due to launch in 2025. The goal is to improve its fortunes to equal its competitors in EVs and electric SUVs and trucks. Although the PHEV Wrangler is widely popular, it has received some criticism in the past due to slow transitions between hybrid and electronic driving. As such, those who’ve been critiquing the Wrangler have been waiting to test-drive the new 2024 version.
