Woman smashes record for world’s largest afro for the second time | Weird News

Aevin Dugas, a Louisiana resident, broke the Guinness World Record twice for the largest natural afro. During her most recent triumph, Dugas’ hair reached an impressive 9.84ins (25cm) tall, 10.4ins (26cm) wide, with a circumference of 5.41ft (165 cm). In 2010, Dugas stole the title with hair measuring 4ft 4ins (132cm) in circumference. Over 13 years, she added a considerable 12.9ins (33cm) to her afro, a feat accomplished after ditching artificial straightening treatments. It took Dugas nearly 25 years to grow out her natural hair.  
Dugas says she prefers to keep her hair protected and does not tend to wear it out in its natural, uncombed state for this reason. Nonetheless, when she does decide to showcase her afro, she receives a great deal of attention, consisting of admiration, stares, questions, and tug attempts from delighted admirers. She has sprinkled a few choice words and a quick pat on the hand to encourage this last set’s restraint.
Dugas gave up using dangerous chemicals to straighten her hair as they have now been cited as linked to cancer, a fact which led her to choose natural hot oil treatments instead; she oils her hair with the butters that she makes every seven days after shampooing, conditioning, and styling. Although Dugas’ achievement is remarkable, other world records were also broken this year, including the world’s widest wig created by an Australian artist, eight ft and six inches across. A Portuguese dog, Bobi, who lived for 30 years on his owner’s farm, was also deemed the oldest of all time.
