Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have split after six years of dating, according to sources cited by Entertainment Tonight. The breakup was reportedly amicable and not dramatic, with the relationship having simply run its course. Swift is currently on her The Eras tour, and Alwyn has not been seen at any shows. The couple was extremely private during their time together, rarely discussing each other in public and being seldom photographed together. There had been long-running speculation about the pair getting engaged, but Alwyn has previously shrugged off the rumors, saying if he were engaged he would not say, and if he weren’t, he would also not say.
While together, Alwyn wrote several songs for Swift under the pseudonym William Bowery, which appeared in her albums Folklore and Evermore, both reaping Grammy recognition. Swift has famously drawn on her own relationships in her music, such as in her track “Call It What You Want,” which referenced the beginning of her relationship with Alwyn. She has also confirmed that the mega-hit “Lavender Haze” was inspired by her and Alwyn’s romance, and the idea of experiencing an all-encompassing love glow.
Alwyn, an actor from the UK, played a significant role in each of Swift’s two most recent albums, with the singer calling him the first person she plays every new song she writes. Alwyn officially confirmed the relationship to British Vogue in 2018, saying he and Swift preferred to keep their love life private. Swift recently spoke at Billboard’s Women in Music event in Hollywood where she directed much of her speech to criticising rival, Scooter Braun.
Given Swift’s track record for using her romantic experiences to inspire her art, it’s likely that she will continue to draw from her own life for future projects. However, for the time being, at least, the singer is focusing on her music and her tour, with her current schedule taking her to Tampa, Florida.
