The ninth episode of Star Trek: Picard sets up the high stakes for the last episode of the series, featuring big threats and big blows for the heroes. However, episode nine may not matter in the grand scheme of things in regard to the spinoff series Star Trek: Legacy, according to showrunner Terry Matalas. In his interview with Collider, he discusses the heroic sacrifice of Captain Shaw and how he was always destined to go out heroically after being introduced in this final season. Although he perished in episode nine, he does appear in next week’s season finale, which may have to do with Stashwick’s potential involvement with the Star Trek: Legacy spinoff.
Matalas confirms that from the beginning of the season, there has always been a plan for Captain Shaw to be part of the spinoff, but there is currently no Star Trek: Legacy in development at Paramount+. However, should the spinoff come to fruition, Shaw’s entry into the escape pod is integral to the continuation of his story, and he does appear in some capacity in next week’s finale. Todd Stashwick would absolutely be part of the spinoff if it went ahead. Fans of Star Trek will have to wait and see if Stashwick’s character will be part of the Legacy spinoff.
Throughout the season, we have seen the irascible, now former, captain of the U.S.S. Titan become a standout hero. Therefore, if Shaw does appear in the new spinoff, it will be fascinating to see how his character develops further as the stakes are raised even higher. Fans of Todd Stashwick and his character of Captain Shaw will be eagerly waiting to see what happens next.
The prospect of a new Star Trek spinoff is exciting for fans of the franchise, and the Legacy spinoff is something that many are hoping for. It is interesting to speculate on what the storylines will be centered around, and it’s not surprising that the showrunners plan to include characters from the existing series. The impending finale of Picard is building excitement and suspense for what is coming next in the Star Trek universe. Fans will surely be watching and waiting for any signs of a possible spinoff.
